Cath is an internationally experienced and highly respected architect and founding director of 1+2 Architecture.
Cath is a passionate designer, driven by opportunities to explore beauty and create memorable spatial experiences. She consistently brings architectural clarity and programmatic efficiency to her projects, routinely exceeding client expectations. As a widely experienced Project Director, Cath adeptly navigates challenges presented by complex architectural projects.
She serves as an elected member of the Board of Architects Tasmania and the AIA Tasmanian Chapter Council, and she is an assessor for the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia. In recent years, Cath has been a jury member for the AIA Tasmanian Chapter Awards, a member of the National Visiting Panel to the University of Tasmania School of Architecture, and a guest lecturer at the same institution.
In 2018, she received the National Association of Women in Architecture - Tasmania Innovation in Design Award for her exceptional contributions to the field of architecture.
In 2020, Cath was honoured with the title of Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects.
Fred Ward
Founding Director - Architect FRAIA
B. Arch (Hons), BA. Env. Des.
Fred Ward is an accomplished and recognized architect with over 30 years of local, national, and international experience. He understands the impact of environments on quality of life and through his practice, seeks to find harmonious and sustainable relationships between people and place.
Fred graduated with honours from the University of Tasmania in 1992 and first registered as an architect in Victoria in 1998. He then worked in London, on projects across the UK, Europe, and the USA before returning home to lutruwita/Tasmania and co-founding 1+2 Architecture in 2002.
An active member of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA), Fred has served as an invited final-year tutor and examiner at the University of Tasmania School of Architecture. He has also been a jury member for the AIA awards program on multiple occasions, serving as the main jury chair in 2024.
In 2022, Fred was awarded the title of Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the field.
Michael Carlotto
Associate - Experienced Graduate of Masters of Architecture

Michael has a collaborative approach to design and enjoys resolving complex briefs that allow for the creation of exciting new possibilities. He is fundamentally a pragmatic designer with a keen eye for detail.
Michael graduated from Queensland University of Technology with a Master of Architecture in 2017. Prior to relocating to Hobart in 2018, Michael worked in Brisbane for 11 years where he gained significant experience. He has experience delivering projects from design through to construction across a broad range of sectors including small to large residential, commercial, tourism, industrial and hospitality.
Michael is inquisitive by nature and regularly explores new tools and methodologies to strengthen his capabilities. He is experienced in the strategic application of building information modelling (BIM) and computational design which he believes bring greater certainty and value to the projects he is a part of.
Kate Walker
Experienced Graduate of Masters of Architecture

Kate is a highly experienced graduate of architecture who completed a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Tasmania in 2014. She then spent two years in the United Kingdom, gaining valuable professional and personal experience by working on a diverse range of projects, ranging from small bespoke residential alterations to large scale commercial developments.
Upon her return to Tasmania in 2017, Kate discovered a renewed appreciation for her home state, which she gained during her time abroad. Before joining 1+2 in 2022, Kate worked for a local architecture practice in nipaluna/Hobart, where she further expanded her skill set in verbal and graphic communication, construction documentation, detail understanding, as well as her problem solving ability.
Kate's passion for architecture is driven by the diverse challenges it presents. She is continually expanding her knowledge and understanding, which keeps her inspired and motivated. Kate derives particular enjoyment from designing small spaces that reflect the human scale, and she strongly believes that the beauty of architecture is held in the detail. Her approach to sustainability is grounded in a back-to-basics philosophy of recycling, reducing, and reusing wherever possible. Kate is committed to high-quality architecture that is designed and built to last.
Ania Labuda
Experienced Graduate of Masters of Architecture
M. Arch WUST, B.Arch BTU
Ania is an experienced graduate of architecture whose journey has taken her across borders, blending diverse educational and professional experiences.
Originally from Poland, Ania completed a Bachelor of Architecture at the Brandenburg University of Technology in Germany followed by a Master of Architecture at the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in Poland in 2016. She then spent several years honing her skills working on large-scale residential projects in her homeland.
Driven by a desire for adventure and a love for travel, Ania moved across the world to nipaluna/Hobart at the beginning of 2019. Since then, she has been working locally on a range of small and large commercial architecture projects.
Being a committee member of the EmAGN Community allowed her to connect with and contribute to like–minded local emerging architects.
Ania believes that architecture has a strong influence on it’s inhabitants. She strives to create comfortable and accessible spaces that resonate with human nature and prioritises simplicity and quality in her projects.
Outside of work, Ania enjoys exploring Tasmania, unwinding on the yoga mat, and more recently making pottery.
